This is the Iron on type. I have some fishing shirts that I bought at a large sporting good store where the collar has second layer of material that folds under the regular collar. This is to really cover my neck in the sun by flipping up the collar and then flipping up the second layer. The shirt did come with Velcro on the back to hold the collar in place, but the collar ends would come undone and stick out. The Velcro Iron-On's worked perfectly to hold the ends in place and come undone when I need to use the second collar, without having exposed stitching in the collar. I do not use the second collar all the time and have held up well. They have gone through many washing's without any peeling off. I have also used them on cargo shorts that have button pockets as well so because I don't like to use the buttons. Since these pockets get a lot more usage, I have seen where the Velcro tape has peeled. So I do need to provide some hand stitching to hold them down better. So it depends on what your application is going to be as to how durable the tape will hold up. As for me, they fit the need.
